ULTIMATE ADVENTURE SERIES RIDE: Alaska
Day One, June 17th
Welcome to Fairbanks (Check-In and Welcome Dinner)
This is the day for arrival in Fairbanks. We can help you arrange for transportation from the airport if you are picking up a rental motorcycle (reservations and rental arrangements must be made in advance - see this page for more about motorcycle rentals, lodging and other information). There will be a welcome dinner this evening, offering a great opportunity to get acquainted with everyone. Afterward, you can spend an evening having fun in one of Alaska’s largest and most beautiful cities.
Day Two, June 18th
Fairbanks to Coldfoot (260 mi. - gravel)
Ride across the Arctic Circle today. While traveling northbound, witness the arctic summer’s briefly exposed wonders. After crossing above the Arctic Circle, your sense of day and night will become confused from the lack of sunset and sunrise as we enter the land of the midnight sun. We will stay in Coldfoot, at a very unique lodge. The support truck will follow behind the riders (carrying any extra gear and spare gas), serving as a safety vehicle in case of breakdown.
Day Three, June 19th
Coldfoot to Deadhorse (242 mi. - gravel)
Due to possibly challenging road conditions, this could be one of the longest riding days. The road can be mud, ice, gravel, and broken macadam in the best of conditions! Ride the most northerly road in North America, crossing the remote Brooks Range at Atigun Pass. Scenery is world-class, and the chance of viewing wildlife (from grizzlies, dall sheep, caribou, to moose) is high. When we get to Deadhorse, there will still be time for you to swim in the Arctic Ocean by taking a two hour guided bus tour (not operated by Aerostich Tours - Refer to the Arctic Caribou Inn's website for more information and to get signed up)! Sites are available for those who prefer to camp each night; however, we strongly recommend using the warm and wind free indoor accommodations available in Deadhorse.
- Deadhorse - The small industrial town which supports the oil exploration at Prudhoe Bay. It is located a few miles from Prudhoe Bay and the Arctic Ocean. To gain access to the ocean, one is required to take an authorized tour. (Security in the area is high due to terrorist threat to the oil infrastructure in Prudhoe Bay.) Bring a swim suit and join the Polar Bear Club! This alternate tour is not offered through Aerostich Tours. If you would like to register for it, please refer to the Arctic Caribou Inn's website.
Day Four, June 20th
Deadhorse to Coldfoot (242 mi. - gravel)
The riding itinerary today takes us south from the most northerly point on the road system in North America on another long trip. We’ll recross the remote Brooks Range at Atigun Pass. Scenery is world-class, and the chance of viewing more wildlife (or experiencing some very strange weather) is very high. We will depart earlier than usual in order to get to Coldfoot sooner, to ensure enough time in case of inclement weather.
Day Five, June 21st
Coldfoot to Fairbanks (260 mi. - paved)
Today we will celebrate the summer solstice and ride back across the Arctic Circle and recross the Yukon River around lunch time. Side trips can be made to soak in the hot springs at Manley, visit the unique “beer totem” in the historic town of Wiseman, try your luck fishing, or venture to the town of Circle on the Yukon River. For those departing Fairbanks today, transportation can be arranged to the airport. Many lodging options are available in Fairbanks for those choosing to spend another night.
