Germany: The Black Forest + INTERMOT and Vetorama

October 1 - 10, 2010

Day One, October 1st
Welcome to Germany (Welcome Dinner)

This is the day for arrival in Frankfurt. There will be a shuttle available for transportation to our lodging in Heidelberg at a comfortable western style hotel. Rental motorcycles (or cars!) will be picked up today to be ready for the exciting riding opportunities that await. There will be a 'Welcome' German Biker-style barbecue dinner this evening, offering an opportunity to get acquainted with your host, fellow motorheads, gearheads and adventurers.

Day Two, October 2nd
Heidelberg Area [100 mi.]

After breakfast we embark on a mixture of urban navigation and the rolling roadways and small historic roads of the surrounding countryside. The day-tour of the Heidelberg area will culminate with a visit to the Munch Museum before riding back to the group hotel base. The Heidelberg area offers a plethora of traditional German dining options to choose from before calling it a night in anticipation of one of our longer riding days.

Day Three, October 3rd
Heidelberg to Alpirsbach [200 mi.]

Winding roads pass through scenic countryside as the group rides into the heart of the Black Forest. The next three nights will be spent at a traditional German hotel. The days ahead will be filled with unequaled riding opportunities to explore the Black Forest region.

Day Four, October 4th
Black Forest Area [150 mi.]

After enjoying a traditional German breakfast, we hunt the secret roads and century old streets of the Black Forest. Ride the small and twisty roads that are usually only known to 'local' riders and are the source of exploration for thousands of German riders each year, seeking small winding roads through picturesque villages and scenery. We'll stop for lunch somewhere along the route at a local cafe or restaurant typical of the Black Forest region.

Day Five, October 5th
Black Forest Area [150 mi.]

The day starts with another typical German breakfast followed by more exploration riding opportunities winding through the many small and scenic villages of the Black Forest. This is an adventure day which can include riding up a former Grand Prix race course that is normally closed to motorcyclists because of the danger of crowded riding conditions on weekends, or stopping and shopping in local motorcycle shops in larger cities. There may be an opportunity to visit a private motorcycle museum, one not 'open to the public.' Lunch will be on the road and typically off a German menu. The day will end after the motorcycles and cars are parked with a celebratory beer from the local brewery, one housed originally in a monastery with the beer brewed by the monks.

Day Six, October 6th
Black Forest to Cologne via Heidelberg

A ride back to Heidelberg will bring a conclusion to the motorcycle riding portion of the tour. We will board a train for a scenic trip along the Rhine River and through rolling countryside to Cologne and check into a Cologne hotel. The evening will be spent enjoying the German fare offered by the many restaurants in the historic old city of Cologne, formerly known as Koln.

Day Seven, October 7th
INTERMOT and Heidelberg

Welcome to a motorcycle enthusiasts giant candy store! Spend the day completely immersed in everything the motorcycle industry has to offer. The world's premier, and largest, motorcycle trade show will not disappoint the avid motorhead or gearhead. We have secured special access to this bi-annual motorcycle extravaganza event for our group to explore this unique venue on press day. Tour participants get the first look at everything new the motorcycle industry has to offer...before the general public. After a full day absorbing all that is modern motorcycling culture, the group will get back on board the train for a return journey to Heidelberg and their home base hotel.

Day Eight, October 8th
Mannheim - VETERAMA

If INTERMOT is everything new and now in motorcycling, VETEROMA is everything else, literally. Started in Mannheim in 1975 as a local motorcycle event, it has grown into the world’s largest motorcycle swap meet, drawing collectors and motorcycle fanatics from around the globe. An amazing display of vintage and classic motorcycles, from restored or fully customized to non-running restorer’s dreams. As well as NOS, if custom or obscure parts cannot be found, or a lead cannot be found at VETERAMA, then it probably will not exist in the motorcycling world. A farewell barbecue dinner will allow everyone to swap stories and re-live their experiences of the past week of adventuring and exploration, before retiring to our rooms at the hotel.

Day Nine, October 9th
Heidelberg

After enjoying breakfast and bidding farewell to fellow tour group members, it is onto the shuttle back to the airport for the trip home.

Total Riding Miles: 700 - 1000+
