Japan 2007 Itinerary*
Tuesday, September 25, 2007 - Wednesday, September 26, 2007:
Day One: Arrive in Sapporo, site of the 1970 Winter Olympics and home of the Sapporo Brewery. Free day to shake off jet lag and explore the city. Lots of shops and eye candy. Welcome dinner at an authentic five star restaurant. Day Two: Another free day to explore Sapporo. For dinner have the option of eating on your own or at the Sapporo Brewery (non-alcoholic beverages will also be available). Thursday, September 27, 2007:Day Three: Pick up bikes, ride to Tokachi Dake area. Spectacular winding roads. Overnight stay in Daisetsu National Park at an idyllic hot springs resort in the shadow of a steaming volcano. Friday, September 28, 2007 - Saturday, September 29, 2007:
Day Four & Five: Ride to Wakkanai, the northernmost tip of Hokkaido, via Bifuka. Ride along the breathtaking coast of the Sea of Japan. See several islands in the distance. Enjoy a free day to explore this remarkable area while staying at yet another beautiful hot spring resort. Sunday, September 30, 2007 - Monday, October 1, 2007:
Day Six & Seven: Ride to Rubeshibe, near Iozan where the scenery turns from lush green to the surface of the moon. Explore forming volcanoes! From Iozan is a day ride to the Shiretoko Peninsula. This stretch is full of twisties, tunnels, waterfalls and heavily forested mountain roads; all of which are wide open with little or no other vehicles on the road. View Russia from the coast and see Japanese deer and fox. We’ll also travel through an Ainu village, the only indigenous peoples remaining in Japan. Unbelievable cuisine – a seafood lover’s nirvana. Tuesday, October 2, 2007 - Wednesday, October 3, 2007:
Day Eight & Nine: Ride from Iozan to Minami Furano Cho. Stay at Lake Kanayama. Ride the famous Ougon Douro; the “Golden Road,” carved out of solid rock which cost untold sums to build. Free day with lots to do: kayaking, canoeing, riding, exploring, shopping, etc. ”The Alaska of Japan”. Thursday, October 4, 2007 - Friday, October 5, 2007:
Day Ten & Eleven: Ride from Minami Furano to Niseko. Free day riding around the area and exploring. Ride the rugged & twisty coast of the Sea of Japan replete with crashing waves and scenic splendor. Saturday, October 6, 2007:
Day Twelve: Ride from Niseko to Sapporo. Extremely fun & twisty roads along the coast. Farewell dinner in the evening. Sunday, October 7, 2007:
